NY Rising Grant Program And Your Elevation: BGC News Update

January 29th, 2016

IMPORTANT NY RISING UPDATE—OFFICIAL BGC NEWS

Attention Long Island and New York homeowners impacted by Hurricane Sandy:

As many of you know, New York Rising is funded by HUD through GOSR (Government Office of Storm Recovery). NYR was set up to assist people with damage from 3 storms, the main one being Hurricane Sandy. Now, new regulations and requirements from building departments are changing the way we build. There is more testing, certifications, surveying and engineering. This seems to be coming down from FEMA that is closely watching any Construction that is going on. This usually isn’t your building department trying to make things harder for you. The end result is FEMA needs to insure these homes and to prevent future damage and losses which in turn means you end up with a better end product.

The Challenge Of Finding The Right Lift Contractor

A major challenge for many local homeowners is choosing the right contractor for your lift. Ben’s General Contracting Corp. has been building flood resilient homes in the same area for over 35 years. We have completed a major portion of the New York Rising Elevations successfully along the entire south shore of Long Island. We know the “ins and outs” of what needs to be done from utility disconnects and reconnects to current code compliance issues. We are well known and respected by most architects and building officials. We are big enough to have the manpower to provide the construction services you need and the office staff to keep you advised as to billing and any changes needed to get you through your elevation project.

What Is New With The NY Rising Grant Program?

BEWARE OF CLAWBACKS: It seems that some of the earlier awards were calculated using different rates from what they are using now. We are advising our house lift clients to be careful about submitting change orders because NY Rising will often award you the change order, but recalculate your original items to clawback and lower your original award. Ben’s General Contracting is working directly with New York Rising to try to get this corrected, and our architects and employees always have the most current information to navigate New York Rising and get your house elevated successfully.

As the leading elevation contractor in NY, Ben’s General Contracting Corp. is well versed in the “goings on” at New York Rising. Since the Storm, we have worked tirelessly to keep you informed. Call today for an estimate!
